


ISIS spokesman Abu Omar al-Muhajer announced that Iraqi-born leader Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi lost his life in battle, allegedly in October 2022. His death occurred in Daraa in southern Syria. The successor at the helm of the jihadist organization is Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurayshi.

The ISIS spokesman on Wednesday 30th November announced the new leader of the group saying that, "He is one of the veteran warriors and one of the loyal sons of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant committed to freeing the prisoners of ISIS and fighting against the enemies of Allah".
The Leader was unanimously elected by the leadership and command of the organization (Majlis al-Shura) in which all the top representatives in the consultation pledged allegiance to him. This weeks delay for the election of the new Leader is due to the secret election, an activity of electing the new leader, to inform all the various contacts of the organization located in various parts of the world through the web, and to take the fidelity oath.
