The Austrian police have foiled an attack on the Pride parade which took place yesterday in Vienna and which brought together hundreds of thousands of people. Three very young sympathizers of the Islamic State, aged 14, 17 and 20, were arrested yesterday morning shortly before the start of the demonstration, in the center of the Austrian capital, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of the Austrian secret services reported at a press conference, and specified that there was no– any threat caused to the participants in the parade.
This fact underscores the importance of intelligence operations and surveillance in preventing terrorist attacks.
During the searches at their residences, "weapons and various materials" were seized. This suggests that they intended to carry out their malevolent plans. Law enforcement agencies have stated that the three had planned to use "bladed weapons or vehicles" during the parade.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and security in mass events such as the Pride parade. Given that the threat of terrorism is ever-present, it is crucial for law enforcement to remain on high alert to protect public safety. Despite many criticisms about the Pride parade event, thanks to the readiness of the Austrian law enforcement, participants were able to enjoy the event safely.
