German police arrested a 32-year-old Iranian citizen in the town of Castrop-Rauxel, in western Rhineland North-Westphalia, on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. The German authorities were informed by the Foreign Intelligence Services when the terrorist activity was reported through the use of chemical substances. During the search of the house, no chemicals such as cyanide and ricin were found, only electronic storage devices.
A second person was identified and arrested, and the two are brothers. The latest analysis shows that both men are not connected to the Iranian regime, but it is suspected that one of the two has ties to Sunni terrorist groups.
