In the turmoil of our daily life, it's easy to get swept up in noise and chaos, often forgetting the importance of taking a moment to connect with our spiritual side. The teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ have provided us with timeless wisdom, guiding us along the path of mindfulness and devotion. Among the profound words of the Prophet ﷺ, we find a beautiful reminder of the power of two simple but profound affirmations:“Subḥān Allāhi wa biḥamdih” and “Subḥān Allāhil-Aẓīm”.
From the collection of hadiths, narrated by Abu Hurairah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ emphasized the importance of these two statements. He described them as “light on the tongue” meaning they are easy to pronounce, and “heavy on the scale” meaning they carry immense weight and reward in the Hereafter. These affirmations hold a special position in the heart of Ar-Rahman [the Merciful], and constitute a powerful means of supplication.

By adding “wa biḥamdih”, we further praise him for His infinite blessings and mercy which He bestows on his creation. This simple, yet profound statement encompasses both glorification and gratitude, demonstrating our recognition of Allah's greatness and our gratitude for his innumerable favors.
The second phrase, "Subḥān Allāhil-Aẓīm</em", further emphasizes the glorification of Allah ﷻ. ““Aẓīm”” translates as “the Magnificent” or “the Great”, emphasizing His majestic nature and infinite greatness about Him. By repeating “Subḥān Allāh” in this context, we reaffirm once again our recognition of Allah's exalted status and deep reverence for him.
These expressions of devotion have a transformative effect on our hearts and souls. They serve as a constant reminder of Allah's presence in our existence, nurturing a deep sense of humility and awe of our Creator.
