In the previous months there have been a series of Islamophobic incidents across Europe by far-right leaders who burned and destroyed the Noble Quran.
On Wednesday 1st February, the European Commission appointed Marion Lalisse as their new coordinator for combating anti-Muslim hatred, amid an alarming increase of attacks on Islam.
Lalisse has extensive experience in the EU, having previously served as Deputy Ambassador to Yemen. She has also previously worked with numerous civil society organizations within the EU and in the Muslim world.
Marion Lalisse will work with member states, European Institutions, Civil Society and Academia to strengthen policy responses in the field of hate against Muslims.
In her new role, the coordinator will be the main contact point for organizations working in this field in the EU.
In the aftermath of her appointment, Marion Lalisse declared: <<We must fight hatred against Muslims in all areas of life including education, employment and social policy>>.
