2nd November 2020 was the day when a terrorist attack was perpetrated in the historic center of Vienna, later claimed by ISIS. It was a shooting aimed at passers-by by a Macedonian jihadist of Islamic-extremist origin which caused the death of four civilians as well as twenty wounded. There was also a report of the risk of a possible attack on the nearby Stadttempel synagogue, which was not targeted at the time. Now, after just over two years, the fear of terrorism returns to the Austrian capital.
The alert was launched in the past few hours by the Intelligence. In fact, since yesterday morning the police have begun to prepare security measures throughout the city, especially around the Viennese churches considered to be the most targeted by Islamic terrorism. However, the precautions implemented, as the police released on Twitter, will not only cover Christian places of worship, but also places belonging to other religious confessions. The alleged bombers would be ready to hit Vienna. Some hypotheses were launched by Kurier newspaper, who allegedly argued that concrete threats from ISIS to Austria would have emerged on March 15, on the occasion of the twelfth anniversary of the beginning of the civil war in Syria.
